Scotstar - Episode 3

EPISODE SYNOPSIS

Series following the work of the Scotstar transfer teams from their purpose-built hub at Glasgow Airport. Premature babies account for more than half the Scotstar journeys when tiny patients are brought to Scotland’s two specialist units in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Many newborns are separated from mothers too ill to travel. In this epsiode, we meet premature twins born 18 weeks early on the very brink of survival. Their father faces agonising decisions while his wife fights for her life in one ward and tiny twin girls hang onto life in another. A Scotstar helicopter team handles an emergency call to Lochgilphead when an elderly man is knocked out by a bad fall. A routine tonsillectomy goes badly wrong when 4 year old Khazir suffers a rare complication resulting in an emergency Scotstar transfer to the Children’s Hospital in Glasgow. On the journey the ambulance had to stop for the Scotstar team to restore Khazir’s breathing.
