The crabs, slugs, mudskippers and other adaptable critters which inhabit this zone have challenges we can’t imagine. Other creatures like rock crabs, anemones and sea hares all rely on moisture to survive the six-hour tide cycle. With temperatures rising, this doused environment becomes even more challenging. Likewise, life in the mangrove swamps of the world is also increasingly difficult. Water gushes in and out, but rising acidity threatens a delicate ecosystem. In colder oceans coastal life is a little easier, especially in environments like kelp forests. Here, predators and prey, including the ancient sevengill shark, play the eternal game of hide and seek and have clever plans to kill or to evade.
